METAL QUENCHING OILS

The term quenching normally refers to the controlled cooling of steel components in a fluid to give specified properties. The hardness and the other physical properties obtained depend upon the composition of the steel, the dimension of the component, the time and temperature of the heat treatment and the speed and duration of the quenching process.

A number of quenching mediums such as molten salts, brine solutions and synthetic quenchants can be used, but petroleum based quenching media find the widest application due to the following advantage.

• They are easier to control and give uniform hardness
• Suitable for large-scale automation.
• These are non- corrosive and non- toxic.

RELIABLE METAL QUENCHING grades have been specially formulated from highly refined petroleum oils with additives and have the following characteristics.
• Good thermal properties
• Good chemical and oxidation stability.
• High boiling points and low volatility.
• High Flash and fire points.

QUENCHOL 039
These are blends of refined base oils and contain no additives. QUENCHOL 039 is recommended for general purpose quenching of components and is particularly suitable for quenching of cyanided parts.

QUENCHOL 040
QUENCHOL 040 is suitable in situations where lower quenching speed is desired. These meet the requirements of IS: 2664- 1980 (Re-affrmed in 1987) straight Mineral type Grade Medium and Heavy respectively.

QUENCHOL 042
RELIABLE QUENCHOL 042 is a blend of refined petroleum oils and high quality fatty oils. It has good wetting characteristics and has a higher quenching speed. Recommended for general-purpose quenching operation but is not suitable for quenching of cyanided parts. It meets the requirement of IS: 2664- 1980(Re-affirmed in 1987) Compounded type.

QUENCHOL 043
It is an additive type of quenching oil with good dispersing characteristics and has excellent heat transfer properties. The carefully selected additives incorporated in this oil controls soiling of metallic parts during quenching by preventing dirt from accumulating on the metal and there by ensures uniforms hardness with Minimum quench distortion. It meets the requirements of IS: 2664- 1980, (Re-affirmed in 1987)

QUENCHOL 044
It is also an additive type of quenching oil with balanced proportions of high viscosity index base oils. The optimum viscosity with superior additive chemistry providing a faster cooling rates on cooing rates in cold quenching operations. It is recommended for all the operations where higher surface hardness is required. The oil gives minimal quench distortions. It meets the requirements of IS: 2664- 1980, (Re- affirmed in 1987) Additive type.
